Biomedical Engineering Project Manager

The Biomedical Engineering Project Manager manages department resources to meet project requirements for patient care technology in The University of Kansas Health System (UKHS). Meets with equipment manufacturers and other contract vendors to determine if equipment and infrastructure requirements are within Health System standards. Monitors Biomedical Engineering project participation and provides oversight for quality, cost effectiveness, and overall performance. Performs assessments of current patient care technology, evaluates new technologies, consults on purchases and coordinates installations. The incumbent will act as an educational resource for staff and assures compliance of the medical equipment environment with national codes and standards, including accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages department resources to meet the service requirements for patient care technology.
  • Manages Biomedical Engineering participation in Health System projects involving clinical equipment.
  • Interacts with equipment manufacturers and other contract vendors during evaluation, construction and installation of equipment systems.
  • Evaluates alternative suppliers for equipment and supplies.
  • Develops appropriate solutions to equipment disruptions during construction.
  • Works closely with equipment owners to insure scope of work meets expectations.
  • Reviews and approves completed work for quality, cost effectiveness, and compliance with department standards.
  • Provides expertise to assess current technology, evaluate new technologies, consult on purchases and coordinate installations.
  • Periodically reviews the state of existing technologies and helps develops replacement strategies for mature or failing systems.
  • Identifies and evaluates new patient care technologies.
  • Develops bid specifications for patient care technology.
  • Coordinates with Purchasing to identify requirements, and options, for post warranty service support.
  • Participates in work groups and committees to plan and develop new patient care programs.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and oversee installation of patient care technology systems.
  • Acts as an educational resource for Biomedical Engineering staff.
  • Facilitates project implementation.
  • Recommend appropriate configuration changes to Clinical Specialist relating to equipment.
  • Assists with the development of disruption planning related medical equipment upgrades.
  • Monitor the clinical environment during construction to ensure compliance with TJC, CAP, etc.
  • Participate on the Construction Committees addressing equipment issues.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs when necessary to help meet department compliance needs.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Job Requirements:

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • 6 years working in Biomedical Engineering or associated field
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred:

  • Associate's of Science Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or Military Equivalent
  • AAMI Certification
  • Bi-lingual
